Do you ever feel like your life is on autopilot?

This is something I used to struggle with a lot. For years, it felt like I was on autopilot and my life just happened without me really being in control of anything. I think most people have experienced this at some point in their lives.

Why is this so common?

The problem is that we have a lot of unconscious beliefs that drive our actions. We may not even know what these beliefs are, but they can be quietly affecting everything from how you relate to your friends and family to whether you're following your dreams for life and business.

We make decisions and think we're consciously choosing them, but most of the time it is our automatic unconscious programming making these choices for us. In other words – we're on autopilot!

The good news? Once you start to realize this, there are some very simple ways to retrain your brain so that the beliefs you choose are the norm – not just thoughts on repeat from years past.

In this post, I'll explain one simple way you can start to retrain your brain and become more conscious of your predominant thoughts.

But first things first: why is it important to work on your unconscious beliefs and programming?

Believe it or not, we are only actually conscious of 5% or less of the information in our environment. In other words, 95% or more of what’s happening in our environment is being processed on an unconscious level.

Pretty crazy, right?

This is a big part of why you might keep getting the same results again and again in business and can't figure out why.

Thankfully, we can start to shift the equation and instead of living on mostly autopilot, we can slow down, question our reality, and take the time to become more aware of the life we're creating.

When we make this shift, our patterns can start to change for the better. We can finally start getting the results that have felt elusive for so long.

When you're making decisions about your business, you will be able to say ‘yes' when an opportunity comes along and tell yourself “I can and will get through this!” instead of giving up when things get tough.

One easy way to get out of autopilot mode and become more aware of the thoughts running the show? A thought tracker.

By simply tracking your thoughts for a week – both positive and negative thoughts – you will have so much insight into what thoughts are playing on repeat for you.

Experts estimate that the mind has 41-55 thoughts per minute. A thought when repeated over and over becomes a belief.

Since 95% of our thoughts are on repeat, the thoughts you ‘subscribe to' each and every day will obviously affect your belief system and are affecting your current reality (a.k.a. your results in life and biz!).

A thought tracker is super simple. So simple that it would be easy to dismiss this idea and not follow through, but trust me on this one and give it a try and I promise you're going to be blown away by what you discover!

Throughout the day, just take a moment to ask yourself: “What am I thinking right now about this person/this situation/myself?”

Jot it down and start to tally up the repeating thoughts. Try to do this for at least 3 days, if not a full week.

After you're done with your tracking, sit down and examine the quality of your thoughts. Are they empowering? Are they moving you towards the life and business you want?

If you're not happy with what you find, how can you flip the script? Ask yourself what a more positive and empowering belief is that you can replace these old thoughts with.

When you start to rewrite these recurring thoughts, you are retraining your brain to avoid those old thought patterns.

This process is a wonderful way to begin living in the present moment and create what you want, rather than allowing yourself to be on autopilot all day long.

And since your thoughts shape your beliefs and your beliefs shape your reality, this is a great way to start moving towards the life you want TODAY.
