Q&A Time – featuring Austin Roberson
If you were a super hero, what would your super power be?
Well I would love to have the same super powers as Iron Man. Why you ask? Well I’ve watched the movies like 10 times… literally. Really though, I love how he can save the world and have a sense of humor at the same time.
What song do you crank up when you need a boost, or are celebrating a business victory?
Okay, this one is a bit embarrassing. I like to crank up Come on Over by Christina Aguilera.
What’s the best book you’ve read this year? (business or fiction)
For the longest time I told myself I was going to read “Blue Ocean Strategy” by W.Chan Kim and Renee Mauborgne and I am so happy I did. It talks a lot about “tapping into untouched market space” to grow your business. It really opened up my eyes to what’s possible and I am a huge advocate of that book now.
I love to play business match maker. What area of your business could you use help with, in case the Socially Aligned audience or I can hook you up with someone?
I would love some assistance in spreading some love around the entrepreneur community. I know there are lots of people out there with phenomenal ideas for a business, but I think (to a certain extent) the support is lacking. We all need to work together. And although the saying “one team one dream” is a bit cheesy, it definitely applies here.
Apple or PC?
Is that even a question? No I’m kidding. Apple.
What’s your favorite social media network for business?
Well right now, I still enjoy Facebook. I know a lot of people are frustrated with it, but I think that’s only because they don’t understand how to use it. With that said, YES!, it’s frustrating when Facebook continuously makes changes, but hey… I think it makes it all a bit more fun.
What hidden talent do you have that people would be surprised to learn of?
Well… I’ve been a dancer for just over 16 years. No, not ballroom. I do the stuff you see on T.V. I went to work for Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines right out of high school for 9 months and then returned to start my degree in public relations and marketing. Today, I still perform with a company in the Midwest and I teach kids ranging in age from 12, all the way up to 40. (Yep! You’re never to old to boogie. Or shake your bon bons.)
Give us the elevator pitch – what do you do and where can people find you online to connect?
When I started building my first eCommerce company online, I basically ran around looking for the big red easy button. Yea.. I was bummed to find out there wasn’t one. I struggled for about two years (even with a degree in marketing) trying to figure out how the whole online business thing worked. Long story short, I basically strapped myself to some amazing mentors. I spent a lot of my time and money traveling to marketing conventions to listen in on what the pros had to say. And I dedicated the last 2 years of my life to building my business.
You can find Austin at Online Social Academy, an AMAZING monthly membership site to learn about social media and building your business. I am proud to say that I am one of the trainers over at OSA and hope to you all will check it out, by clicking here.
